Pollination and Our Pollinators

Posted on in Uncategorized

We get asked every day… ‘what is happening with the honeybee population?’

I have my opinion, and while it may not be the most popular one, I feel it holds some validity.  Honey bees in the United States and across the world have been mistreated and mismanaged for a long time.  It seems to be one of the many things commercialization causes.  Our honeybees pollinate around 100 crops in the United States. In California alone 20 crops are 95-100% dependent on honey bee  pollination.  Veggies, fruits, nuts, melons, and seeds are just a few items that are locally dependent on honeybee pollination.  The ugly truth about commercial bee keeping is the way the bees are treated and taken advantage of.  Poor diet, corn syrup, and other bi-products has led to an unhealthy honeybee.  Medications, used to keep the bees active while sick and lethargic, have been used for years to counter the problems with the poor diet.  A trifecta of chemicals, fungicides, and herbicides may just be the feather that breaks the elephants back.  It is not a simple problem because there are so many different factors influencing the health and well being of the honeybees.  We have to take responsibility and educate people about what is going on and how to take steps towards finding a solution.  We safely remove and relocate wild and unwanted honeybees throughout Southern California, which we then donate those saved  bees to local bee keepers.  These honeybees are the first step in a solution to solve the problems we have created over the years.  Wild honeybees, for the most part, have not been directly harmed by our bad practices.  With a clean slate, the bee keepers can do the right things.  Keep the bees in places that do not use chemicals, that have plenty of wild flowers to feed them year round, and do not medicate them.  It may not be a perfect system, but it is something that can be done today, and it does work.  Almost all of the honeybees we relocate survive and make it to pollination.  Honeybees inside a roof, wall, attic, floor, or any other hard to reach location can and should be removed alive.  They need to be given a chance to live and pollinate somewhere else.  If and when you have a bee problem at your home or office please keep in mind that your food depends on the honeybee population.  We can save them, keep your cost 20% lower then our competitors, and move them to a place where they can keep our food costs down.  This is good business for all.  A better product and less call backs for a better price then our competitors.  Save the bees and we can take a step to changing our world. www.WeSaveBees.com
