Did you know?
“Bulk Feeding- Here the antibiotic is mixed with sugar syrup and fed to the colonies in a variety of methods. Bulk feeding may be the method of choice if you feed sugar syrup as a routine management practice. The advantage of this method is that it allows for a good dosage control and it yields rapid results. The disadvantages are that this method has the highest risk of contaminating the surplus honey. The rate of uptake of the medicated sugar syrup is dependent on the availability of nectar. Oxytetracycline is least stable in sugar syrup. However this instability could also be a benefit as it would reduce the risk of contaminating the surplus honey. The largest disadvantage is that three treatments are required at four to five day intervals” (Root p.47, 2007)
Let me explain what this means to us all…. The bees are fed a sugar syrup (corn syrup) because it is very cheap and can be passed as a food to the bees. The bees get fat, lethargic and sick from this diet. The corn syrup is deposited into the honey through the bees natural honey making process. The beekeepers medicate the bees using the food source, corn syrup, as a delivery method. The medication masks the bees problems caused by the corn syrup. The medicated corn syrup is then made into honey by the bees own natural honey making process. We are sold ‘All Natural’ pasteurized honey that in simple terms is ‘poisoning’ to us humans and any other animal that consumes it. It is a disturbing truth that is not explained or reported. The process is extremely unhealthy for the bees and for everything else that consumes the honey.
